Now Hiring For:

I. Peer Recovery Support Specialist

Peer-to-peer support facilitates the personal development and growth for our clients. This differs from traditional means where you as the mentor can provide wisdom to your mentes as they navigate through their recoveries. Peer support specialists use their own unique, life-altering experiences in order to guide and support others who are in the process of recovery. Peer support specialists as a profession continue to grow within the workforce, as federal insurance plans, Medicaid and Medicare, start to acknowledge the profession as a billable service — where companies recognize peer support specialists as healthcare professionals. There are cited studies to show that peer-to-peer counseling remains as an effective means for people in recovery, as it has shown to decrease re-hospitalizations, substance use, criminal justice involvement, while increasing satisfaction, retention rates and relationships with providers. Peer support specialists maintain a critical role through shared empathy, respect, and empowerment of the client while upholding the core competencies listed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: recovery-oriented, person-centered, voluntary, relationship-focused, trauma-informed.

Core Competencies:

  1. Recovery-oriented: Peers empower patients in creating their own pathways for recovery, without imposing their own biases.

  3. Voluntary: Peer support specialists serve the client but do not solely dictate the trajectory or components within the recovery plan.
  4. Relationship-focused: Establishing a strong relationship with the peer is fundamental to success of the program and client’s transformation.
  5. Trauma-informed: The peer support specialist creates a safe and welcoming environment for the client to help establish control and empowerment.

Principal Duties and Personal Attributes:

  1. Assist individuals with recovery planning, relapse prevention, housing needs, and education/employment
